It being Sunday, today started with a short devotion and then, the groups split up and went to their respective churches. My group headed out for Real Life UMC a short distance away in Belmont. Real Life is a small faith community meeting in a local elementary school and they were very welcoming. Especially so, considering we’re running a vacation bible school for them. Even though we were in different locations, each group’s day followed the same pattern. Church, followed by VBS setup, lunch and door to door to door canvassing to let the neighborhood know about the VBS. Things were pretty easy until the door to door bit. I keep hearing people talk about how it’s cooler up north, but evidently, we aren’t “up north”; cause it was hotter than h…, well, you know. After a great dinner of tacos and white chili, it was worship time. That worship was ably led by a praise band put together by our friends from Bethesda. Here’s a shot of them in action (Video is coming soon on my Facebook page, but it takes a long time to load):
Yes, that’s Andrew, our fearless youth leader, singing and playing keyboards. The others are his brother Spud on guitar, Wes (Bethel intern) on bass and Chad (Bethel youth leader) on drums. When you see the video, you’ll know just how good they are. After worship was a little free time before lights out at 10:30 PM. Unsurprisingly, there was little contention about bed tonight, because the title of this entry, “An Even Longer Day” is most definitely a fact. But, I want you all to know that your kids are doing great things, working hard and having a blast. As it was a long, hot day, I hope you’ll excuse me if I’m a little brief tonight. I’m beat.
