What I Want

I saw this picture on Facebook the other day. One of the things that struck me hardest is that I know he person who posted it. They profess to be a Christian, but like so many conservative evangelicals these days they seem to have forgotten that Jesus, the man Christians  say they follow, preached a message of love, grace and hope to the downtrodden (aka poor people) and replaced that message with one more in line with their principles. As I read it, I thought I’d make my own wish list and it has one thing on it

  • A little more love. That’s all, just a little more love.

You’re probably thinking I’m a little wacky with all the drugs I’m dosed up on, but you’re wrong. I’ve been this way all my life. You know that saying “He marches to the beat of a different drummer”? To hell with a drummer, I’ve got my own marching band. But, my apparent loose grip on reality isn’t the issue here; it’s love, or rather the lack of it. Look at it this way, if we all showed a little more love, we wouldn’t be looking for crazy conspiracy theories to discredit politicians we didn’t like. If we all showed a little more love, people might not have to stand on street corners panhandling and then go “home” and sleep in a tent set up in a hobo jungle that’s about as safe as a tour in Afghanistan. If we showed a little more love, we wouldn’t care what ethnicity someone is, only that they’ve come here to find a better life for their family. And, we’d help them find it, too. With just a little more love, we might not act like children on Christmas morning and hoard all our stuff when tax time came around. With a little more love, we might not throw nasty names at each other, like “socialist” or “tea bagger”. And, with a little more love, our Congress might stop acting like petulant children and come up with some legislation that will put people back to work and end all their senseless bickering.

In short, I want us to live the words of the Bards of Liverpool (John and Paul) :

There’s nothing you can do that can’t be done. Nothing you can sing that can’t be sung. Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game. It’s easy.
Nothing you can make that can’t be made. No one you can save that can’t be saved. Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you in time. It’s easy.
All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.
All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.
Nothing you can know that isn’t known. Nothing you can see that isn’t shown. Nowhere you can be that isn’t where you’re meant to be. It’s easy.
All you need is love. All you need is love. All you need is love, love. Love is all you need.
All you need is love (all together, now!) All you need is love. (everybody!) All you need is love, love. Love is all you need (love is all you need).
